Trendy English Conference is one of the biggest and most recognized ELT events in Russia. Powering the Classroom Through Ideas
Getting students talking and actively engaged in classroom discussions isn't always the easiest thing to do. This is certainly true for teenage learners, but it's also true for more adult learners. So how can we facilitate engagement and discussion in the classroom? How can we stimulate them to actually think, ask questions, have opinions and to communicate them? Simply by using the right kind of content – content that is going to challenge them intellectually as well as linguistically. Taming FGOS: How to Adjust School Coursebooks to Students' Needs
Modern school coursebooks offer stimulating resources to support your teaching. However, their main disadvantage is that they are standardized and not adjusted to the school reality teachers have to deal with. The session will focus on different ways of adjusting school coursebook topics and tasks to time restrictions. You will also have a chance to see how you could adapt coursebooks to the needs of a mixed-ability class and exploit the materials to the full accepting, modifying, or completely rejecting what the book suggests. The goal is for the participants to walk away with concrete ideas for their own classes.

Effective reading to expand your vocabulary in an exam course
Expanding your vocabulary is the cornerstone of any exam preparation course. And reading is known as an effective way of achieving it. But how much should we read? How can we pick up texts at the right level of difficulty and with the content appropriate for the exam? Should we work with all the unknown words in the text? Ideation Methods for ELT Classes
In the modern world, ideas are usually seen as the cornerstone of creativity. Whole industries have been created around idea generation and selection. In ELT, generating and selecting ideas is becoming a crucial skill for millennial learners — they need to be able to think up and then chose ideas effectively for project preparation, essay planning, passing exams, speaking tasks, etc. In the talk I will share my favourite methods of generating and selecting ideas. We will start by practising some methods for generating as many ideas as possible and then practise some techniques for adding depth and diversity to the ideas created. At the ended of the talk, I will share some effective approaches for clustering, ranking and then reducing options in order to select the best ideas. The talk will be useful for English teachers who would like to learn more on idea generation methods in order to help their learners to think up and select ideas more efficiently both in ELT contexts and outside the class.
