Turning Activities into games
with Mike Astbury
6 December 2020
О мастер-классе
This workshop will look at typical course book activities and find ways to make them more engaging, rewarding and useful, by adapting them with a range of appropriate game mechanics.

Several types of course book activities will be reviewed:

  • Vocabulary: iterating on vocabulary reference pages and associated tasks
  • Grammar: adapting 'gap fills' and production tasks
  • Speaking: expanding on basic role play tasks and discussion prompts
  • Reading and listening: looking at games that practice receptive skills

In each section we will demonstrate and create games which exploit course books and make use of a variety of game mechanics. Most importantly, these games will be highly adaptable, so they can be used again and again, making the initial time investment well worthwhile.

Those on the course will end up with a variety of ready-made games to take away, and will be better equipped to make games themselves.
